Rob Zombies Halloween Remakes Cinemassacre Productions. Great work, James, on this years Monster Madness. As always, you knocked it out of the park. I hope you return to doing another sequel a thon next year so that you might cover Friday the 1. Childs Play, Hellraiser, or perhaps some new fair like Scream, Final Destination, Saw, and Hostel all of which have various high points and low points although the more recent the franchise the more low points in my opinion. My favorite of your reviews this year have got to be the Halloween franchise reviews. The Halloween Franchise is probably the one horror franchise that I have the most respect for despite some of the bad entries. The first 2 Halloween movies are better than anything that can be found any where else in the genre whether you look to the Friday the 1. Those first 2 movies are why I hold the Halloween franchise on a pedestal, and why I always had to give any Halloween sequel a chance even if i know ahead of time that it will most likely be awful. Scream is an American horror franchise created by Kevin Williamson and Wes Craven. Starring Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, and David Arquette, the film series grossed. Out of the rush of horror remakes the last few years these are probably the best. A Nightmare on Elm Street was the worst and Friday the 13th was in the middle. A page for describing TroubledProduction Film 0 To L. The 2013 film 47 Ronin, starring Keanu Reeves, was beset by continuous production woes, as evidenced. As much as I cherish the original Halloween and I am generally not a fan of remakes, I like Rob Zombies first Halloween movie. Its not as good as the original, but I dont think Zombie was trying to replicate the original. He was trying to do his own thing. The final act might come across like Zombie trying to make a homage but he does infuse it enough with his own style. Giving Michael Myers the dysfunctional backstory makes sense to me, but it does make the character less scary. I dont have a problem with Rob Zombies choices. Its not for everyone, but if you watch it with an open mind, it really is even better than most people give it credit for. The thing that made the original so scary is that Michael Myers supposedly came from a normal household and he just snapped one day. The dialogue makes it clear that there is no real reason for Michael Myers ending up the way he did. He just became evil. Rumors that a workprint of Star Wars The Last Jedi had leaked made the rounds last week but that was ultimately deemed to be a hoax. Considering that films. To me, thats scarier than giving the explanation of a dysfunctional family because that means that any seemingly normal person could one day just snap and become a maniac killer. The kid sitting behind you in class who lives just up the block from you could one day for no good reason sneak a knife to school with him and stab you in the back when youre not expecting it. The person walking beside you on some random street in broad daylight could be a killer, or the person in line behind you in the movie theater could just snap for no good reason. The fact that there is no reason such as family dysfunction or any other equivalent psychosis is what made the original so scary. Plus, as James mentioned in his review for the first film in most horror films before this franchise, the victim went to the killer unwittingly. Here you have a horror film where the victims are attacked in their own comfort zones such as their own houses or in their own neighborhood. Friday 13Th Workprint' title='Friday 13Th Workprint' />What Zombie did was replace the original mythos and thematic elements of the original which judging from the sequels, none of the filmmakers after John Carpenter truly understood anyway and replaced that with his own trashy grindhouse horror elements. Instead of being a normal kid who randomly killed his sister, Michael is now deeply disturbed because of his dysfunctional family environment. His mother is now a stripper and kids tease him about it in school. Almost all the supporting characters have severe behavioral disorders appearing trashy and uncouth, and so Michael Myers becomes almost sympathetic. Although it is never said, Michael might actually be jealous that Laurie Strode escaped having to go through the things he did because the Strode family gave her a normal loving household. Friday 13Th Workprint' title='Friday 13Th Workprint' />Friday 13Th WorkprintFriday 13Th WorkprintIn a way, this interpretation makes sense and we can almost understand why Michael became the way he did, but it also takes away the very thing that made the original scary. Also, it also portrays people as victims of their environment who cannot rise above their circumstances. While, the Michael Myers backstory that Zombie gives us fits as a suitable explanation for the evil of Michael Myers, it also makes him less scary despite the physically imposing appearance of Tyler Mane as the adult Michael Myers. It was much better when Michael Myers was a subtle stalker who was able to walk into and out of the darkness. Tyler Mane is such a big bulking person that theres no way he could be a subtle efficient killer. Everything is just too over the top. I only saw Zombies 2nd Halloween film in the theaters and I have not seen the dvd version so I was surprised when James showed the Directors cut ending here. One thing James forgot to mention and i dont know if the dvd version is the same but the final shot of the theatrical Halloween 2 shows Laurie Strode in an institution with a deeply psychotic look on her face as if she might now be a killer if she were free. Despite the unevenness of the film as a whole, I have to say that I like this idea and I only wish Zombie could have explored this more. From the podcast that james participated in, it sounds like the studio greatly interfered with Zombies original vision, which was to have Laurie Strode turn into the actual killer and have Michael Myers be on her mind. Of course, this goes against everything we know about the original, but I like the concept and I have to give Zombie credit for infusing this franchise with much needed originality.
